These products, listed in the substitution list issued by EFSA in 2015, do not meet 100% the safety criteria set by the European Commission regarding their level of persistence or potential harmful to the environment or human health. For this reason, new solutions must be found in order to continue growing quality fruits.
The FruitCARE project, technically coordinated by PCTAD, arises from the need to form an operational working group in the sector that allows giving scientific-technological support and tangible solutions to producers since this removal of active materials is causing them a great problem.
During this first stone fruit campaign at the PCTAD we analyzed the post-harvest quality of cherries, nectarines and peaches grown on the experimental farms where the new pre-harvest strategies are being tested. Similarly, alternatives of natural origin to the use of fludioxonil are being tested, the only post-harvest treatment allowed in Spain for stone fruit.
The project
Fruitcare arises from the need to form an operational working group in the sector that allows giving scientific-technological support and tangible solutions to producers, since this removal of active materials is causing them a great problem.
Furthermore, these strategies should be sustainable alternatives from an environmental, economic and legislative point of view.
